Novenyi, the son of Olympic wrestler Norbert Novenyi Sr., came in having won three straight and kept that run going here. Haig was making his second run at a UFC contract on this show, and he comes up short again. For Novenyi, this is the kind of moment that should have him firmly in the conversation for a UFC deal off the strength of that streak.
Not a lot of detail out of the co-main event yet, but a win is a win on a night built around contracts, and the winner put himself in position to hear his name called by Dana White.
The most eye-catching performance of the night belonged to Marcos Degli, who finished Paris Moran with a rear-naked choke. Degli, a close training partner of top-ranked UFC welterweight contender Carlos Prates, has been open about wanting to be the Prates of the flyweight division, and a clean, visual finish like that is exactly the kind of tape that gets a contract offer. Moran, for his part, has talked about turning past losses into training partnerships, and he'll have more film to learn from after this one.
Piero Guaylupo reportedly turned in a dominant performance, sweeping Callum Connor 30-27 on all three scorecards. Word is Guaylupo dropped Connor with a right hand and kept the pressure on a bloodied opponent for the rest of the fight, the kind of dominant, damage-heavy decision that still plays well with the UFC brass even without a finish.
Damian Piwowarczyk reportedly closed the show early on the undercard, stopping Emilio Quissua by TKO just 4:55 into the opening round. We're hearing Quissua actually had success first, countering with a right hand, but Piwowarczyk reversed the momentum and got the finish before the round ended. That's the kind of quick turnaround performance that stands out on a card full of contract hopefuls trying to make a first impression count.
Across the board, Season 10 Week 7 delivered exactly what DWCS is built for: a clean stoppage, a lopsided decision, a submission, and a main event that reinforced one fighter's winning streak while ending another's bid for a second chance. Dana White now has another batch of tape to sort through, and on the strength of Degli's finish and Piwowarczyk's first-round stoppage, this crop should produce more than one new addition to the UFC roster.
