Welcome to Open Scoring MMA. This is episode 79 for September 5th, 2026, your daily look at what's happening now and next across the world of MMA and UFC. DUKE: Nora, it's officially fight week turned fight day, because UFC Paris is reportedly happening.
NORA: Dan Hooker versus Salahdine Parnasse, the main event.
DUKE: And this is Parnasse's UFC debut.
NORA: A former two division KSW champion, and the promotion is straight up betting he can headline a card in his first walk to the octagon.
DUKE: That's a huge ask for a debut.
NORA: It is, but Hooker's the perfect measuring stick. Kiwi's fought everybody, he tests the gas tank, the chin, the whole résumé in one night.
DUKE: If Parnasse wins that, he's not just in the UFC, he's a name.
NORA: And if Hooker gets it, he's right back in the lightweight mix at, what, thirty something fights deep in his career.
DUKE: Now here's the funny part, the broadcast starts at three in the morning Eastern.
NORA: Midnight Pacific.
DUKE: I saw a post going around on X last night, somebody joking they're allegedly getting eight hours of sleep before a five thirty alarm, allegedly.
NORA: The X crowd's fully in on that joke.
DUKE: Because everybody knows the truth, all the early cards get watched before the sun's even up.
NORA: Nobody's actually sleeping through Paris.
DUKE: Nobody ever is.
DUKE: Alright, let's get into fighter status, because Khamzat Chimaev had a strange weigh in for his RAF Moscow return.
NORA: He came in noticeably lighter than Tyron Woodley for their match at Mytishchi Arena.
DUKE: Chimaev's a former UFC middleweight champ, Woodley's a former UFC welterweight champ, so on paper Woodley should be the bigger, heavier guy anyway.
NORA: Right, but this is billed as a wrestling match under the RAF banner, not a sanctioned MMA bout, so the weight gap matters less than it would in the cage.
DUKE: Still, you don't love seeing Chimaev show up light for anything.
NORA: No, especially with his history of weight cut issues derailing UFC bookings. This is worth watching even outside the actual result.
DUKE: Fair. Let's talk beefs and callouts, because Ciryl Gane's dropping hints about his next fight.
NORA: The former interim heavyweight champ says he's open to running it back with Alex Pereira, and he's now admitting Tom Aspinall might not be the fight that's next.
DUKE: That's a shift. Everybody assumed interim champ meets the real champ, unify the belts, done.

DUKE: The Baddy, world champion, twenty twenty seven, I am fully on board with that prediction.
NORA: McCann's calling her own shot too, she wants a boxing world title in that same year.
DUKE: Two Scousers, same year, two different belts, that's a hell of a story if it actually happens.
NORA: It's a prediction right now, nothing more, but I'll say this, Pimblett's trajectory has been building toward exactly that kind of statement.
DUKE: Last callout for this stretch, there's real smoke on Nassourdine Imavov versus Sean Strickland.
NORA: Still unofficial, but all signs are pointing to that fight landing at UFC 335 in December.
DUKE: Two guys who both want to be next in line at middleweight.
NORA: Exactly, and a win there puts either one right back in title conversation range.
DUKE: Okay, card changes and roster moves. Dana White himself isn't sure what the UFC 331 co-main actually means.
NORA: Arman Tsarukyan versus Mauricio Ruffy is the co-headliner at UFC 331, and there was some talk that the winner might get Justin Gaethje for the lightweight title in twenty twenty seven.
NORA: Nothing is locked in at all, which is wild, because that fight was basically sold to us as a title eliminator.
DUKE: If it's not, Tsarukyan or Ruffy could win big and still be stuck waiting.
NORA: That's the frustrating part of this division right now, the line to Gaethje is crowded and nobody's confirming who's actually next.
DUKE: Meanwhile the roster's getting deeper. Word is the UFC signed a former KSW double champion.
NORA: No name attached to that one yet officially, just confirmation the deal's done.
DUKE: And they made a much bigger splash grabbing Roberto Soldic.
NORA: Croatian knockout artist, thirty one years old, already up on the official UFC roster and just waiting on his first opponent.
DUKE: Soldic's got a scary finishing reputation everywhere he's fought.
NORA: He does, and dropping him into a stacked division with no opponent named yet means we're gonna be talking about this matchup for weeks.
DUKE: Let's look ahead, because the schedule doesn't slow down. Dana White's Contender Series, Season Ten, Week Five, hits this Tuesday, September eighth.
NORA: We're hearing about some of the matchups, including Quentin Pasley versus Arlind Berisha, and Isaac Moreno versus Reginaldo Junior.
DUKE: Contracts on the line for every one of those guys.
NORA: Then Noche UFC lands September twelfth, featuring Jean Silva versus Jose Miguel Delgado.
NORA: And after that, September nineteenth, UFC 331, Van versus Pantoja two, with Tsarukyan and Ruffy in that co-main we just talked about.
DUKE: A rematch at the top, murky stakes right below it.
NORA: That's the whole sport in one card, honestly.
DUKE: Alright, time for the OSM Pick. Nora, talk me into this one.
NORA: Nathaniel Wood is our pick.
DUKE: Wood's the favorite already, though, right?
NORA: He is, minus two eighty, which implies about seventy two percent. We've got him at seventy eight.
DUKE: So we're actually higher than the market.

DUKE: Okay, why though.
