The Octagon touched down in Shanghai for the promotion's second China trip this year, and the undercard stole plenty of the spotlight before Umar Nurmagomedov and Song Yadong even walked out. Here is everything worth knowing from Oriental Sports Center.

Umar Vs Song Headlines A Return To China

Bantamweight contenders Umar Nurmagomedov and Song Yadong were reportedly scheduled to square off in the main event, with Nurmagomedov walking in as a bantamweight contender. The show also carried the UFC Fight Night 286 tag and kicked off in the dead of night stateside, with coverage starting around 3 a.m. ET for anyone determined to stay up.

Debut Nights To Remember

Bilal Hasan made the most of a short-notice call-up, dropping Nilson Rojas with a walk-off shot in the second round of his UFC debut and immediately calling out Andre Lima afterward. Francesco Nuzzi needed just one minute to finish his own first Octagon outing, stopping Long Xiao by TKO. That finish nearly turned scary, too, as referee Herb Dean almost let a dazed Xiao tumble out of the cage before catching him in time after the stoppage.

Tsuruya And Mascote Get It Done On The Mat

Rei Tsuruya kept his submission streak alive, locking up a first-round rear-naked choke on Kevin Borjas for back-to-back opening-round finishes. Andre Mascote had a bumpier path, weathering real pressure from Mongolian debutant Namsrai Batbayar before securing a submission of his own on the prelims. Mascote was coming off the fight that ended his previously unbeaten professional record, and he used the win to announce he is moving down to a new weight class.

A Long-Awaited Win For Moraes, A Rough Night For Xiong

Marlon Moraes reportedly got back in the win column, snapping a skid that stretched across seven fights for the former WSOF champion and one-time UFC title challenger. It's a genuinely feel-good result for a guy who once looked like a future champion before the losses piled up. On the other end of the card, we're hearing that ONE champion Xiong Jingnan took a brutal knockout loss, proof that even a title from another promotion buys no protection in Shanghai.

Welcome to Open Scoring MMA. DUKE: Nora, Shanghai just wrapped and there is a lot to get into today.
NORA: A lot.
DUKE: The whole card was built around contenders and prospects, but the top of the bill was Umar Nurmagomedov against Song Yadong at bantamweight.
DUKE: So whichever way that main event landed, it's a huge swing for the top of that division.
NORA: If Umar gets the job done, he's banging on the door for a title shot.
DUKE: And if Song pulls it off, suddenly he's the one jumping the line instead.
NORA: Either way, that division just got shaken up hard.
DUKE: This was also the UFC's second stop back in China, which tells you they're serious about building that market long term.
NORA: Bantamweight's arguably the deepest room in the sport right now, so putting that fight at the top of a card like this makes total sense.
DUKE: Let's talk about somebody with a much longer road behind him. Marlon Moraes.
NORA: The former WSOF champ, former UFC title challenger.
DUKE: He came out of retirement and actually got the win.
NORA: After a seven fight losing streak.
DUKE: Seven. That's brutal to even say out loud.
NORA: Six years since he'd tasted a win before this one.
NORA: For someone who once challenged for UFC gold, this is just about proving to himself he's still got it.
DUKE: I love that honestly. Not every comeback story needs a title shot attached to mean something.
NORA: Agreed.
DUKE: Now, less feel good. Xiao Long.
NORA: Stopped by TKO in just sixty seconds.
DUKE: And then Herb Dean nearly let him tumble right out of the cage after the stoppage.
NORA: He was clearly still dazed, legs weren't under him yet.
DUKE: That's the stuff that should make people double check the stoppage protocols, not just laugh it off as a clip.
NORA: The knockout's the story on the feed, but the aftermath's the one that actually matters for fighter safety.
DUKE: Okay, now to the debut that's got people talking. Bilal Hasan.
NORA: Short notice call up, and he made the absolute most of it.
DUKE: Starched Nilson Rojas with a walk off shot in round two.

DUKE: Back to back first round taps is a real pattern, that's not luck.
NORA: No, that's someone finding his finishing instincts in real time.
DUKE: And Francesco Nuzzi, debut TKO over Long Xiao in one minute flat.

DUKE: Moraes on one end of that, the young finishers like Hasan and Nuzzi on the other.
NORA: And Umar sitting right in the middle of it trying to become the present tense of that whole division.
DUKE: Let's get into what's coming, because the schedule does not slow down. Dana White's Contender Series, season ten, week four, that's this Tuesday, September first.
NORA: Adam Darby is reportedly on the card.
DUKE: Contender Series is always a contract on the line show. Somebody's whole UFC career starts that night.
NORA: And week five follows quick behind it, September eighth, with Arlind Berisha reportedly in action.
DUKE: Two weeks of prospects fighting for their careers back to back. That's appointment viewing if you like finding the next big thing early.
NORA: It really is.
DUKE: Now the two bigger ones on the actual calendar. First, September fifth, UFC Fight Night, Hooker versus Parnasse.
NORA: We're hearing Dan Hooker is expected to face Salahdine Parnasse.
DUKE: Hooker's a name everybody in that lightweight top fifteen already knows.
NORA: If Parnasse gets through him, he's instantly a relevant name in that conversation.
DUKE: And then September twelfth, Noche UFC, Silva versus Delgado.
NORA: Word is Jean Silva will be headlining.
DUKE: Moreno on a Noche UFC card gives that whole show its biggest name straight away.
NORA: And Jean Silva's finishing ability makes the rest of that card worth clearing your night for too.
DUKE: Alright, let's get to the pick of the week. Nora, this is a big one. Arman Tsarukyan.
NORA: Our model's got Tsarukyan, and it's not close.
DUKE: How not close?
NORA: We've got him at about seventy eight percent.
DUKE: And the betting line?
NORA: The line's got him around seventy five percent implied. So we're a little higher than the market, not a massive gap, but we're leaning further the same direction.
DUKE: Why though, walk me through it.
NORA: Two things. Form favors him right now, and stylistically this is a tough puzzle for his opponent to solve.
DUKE: That tracks with what I've seen too.
NORA: That's the model's read as well. Strong confidence on this one.
DUKE: Strong from us, strong from the sportsbooks, everybody's rowing the same direction here.
NORA: Which almost makes me nervous, honestly, but the numbers are the numbers.
DUKE: Tsarukyan it is. We're on the same side as Vegas, just a hair louder about it.
DUKE: Since we're already patting ourselves on the back, let's be honest about the bigger picture too.
DUKE: That's a hit rate of what, high seventies?
NORA: Seventy seven point six percent.
DUKE: That's good.
DUKE: Wait, so Vegas is beating us?
NORA: Technically, yeah. We're not beating the market overall right now.
DUKE: Ouch.
NORA: But look at the value picks, the spots where we actually disagree with the line. Seven and one.
DUKE: Seven and one when we go off the board, that's the stuff I actually care about.
NORA: That's the whole point of doing this. We're not trying to just repeat the line back to people.
NORA: I'm oh and one.
DUKE: Oh and one, Nora?
NORA: Don't.
DUKE: I'm just saying, maybe stick to explaining my picks instead of making your own.
