Alexander Volkanovski has his hands full with Movsar Evloev on October 24, but that isn't stopping him from looking past it. The featherweight champion is publicly pitching a 'send-off' superfight against lightweight champion Justin Gaethje, with both belts reportedly on the line, according to espn.com, MMA Fighting and MMA Mania, all of whom picked up on the Australian's comments. A superfight with Gaethje, framed by mvpboxing.com as a potential farewell for both men, would be a very different kind of opportunity: a champion versus champion matchup. The timing is notable given where both men currently stand. Gaethje enters this conversation off a statement finish, having stopped Ilia Topuria in the fourth round on June 14 or 15, 2026, and our Elo model has him rated at 1579 off six bouts, well above Volkanovski's 1505 across the same sample size. Volkanovski, meanwhile, still has to get past the booking everyone actually knows is happening first. Evloev, unbeaten and fresh off a majority decision win over Lerone Murphy, carries a 1597 Elo of his own. Whether a Gaethje superfight ever gets made likely hinges on how he handles Evloev first.
